Laboratory involves teachers, persons working for Doctor’s degree, the post-graduate students of the institute for cooperation.

Laboratory “Safety of cargo and ballast operations of ships”

    Our research laboratory “Safety of cargo and ballast operations of marine vessels” is founded in correspondence with the Laws of Ukraine “On education”, “On higher education”, “On scientific and scientific-and-technical activities”, “On priority trends in science and technology”.
    The aim of the laboratory is to elaborate new methods and improve the current ones of organization and control of cargo and ballast operations on the ships, as well as to work out the appropriate normative documents that meet the requirements of modern fleet development.

Main tasks of the laboratory activities are

  • analysis of world and home practice of intensification of ships’ safety during cargo and ballast operations;
  • working out the methods and means of estimation the quality of cargo operations with the help of which it is possible to supervise cargo and ballast operations in a mode of real time taking into account uncertainties concerning an instant condition of the hull of a vessel and influence of random factors;
  • working out the quality monitoring methods of the general strength of a vessel during cargo and ballast operations;
  • working out the methods of diagnostics of the general strength of the ship’s hull;
  • working out the monitoring system of a vessel strength during cargo and ballast operations, allowing to supervise cargo and ballast operations in a real time mode taking into account uncertainties concerning an instant condition of the hull of a vessel and influence of random factors;
  • working out «Ballast water management plan» for different types of ships;
  • introduction of the monitoring system of a vessel strength during cargo and ballast operations on board vessels.

The laboratory activity comprises the scientific supervision and consulting on the scientific research realization in term of papers and diploma projects of cadets (students) of KSMI and Ph.D. thesis in the context of research work of laboratories.

Research themes financed at the expense of means of the state budget

A working out of technologies and the industrial equipment for introduction of achievements of applied magnetism in engineering.
The head of research work: Malygin Boris Vadimovich, a Dr.Tech.Sci., the academician, ASU, the full member of scientific council of the International committee on magnetic-pulse processing of materials, the chief of laboratory of power saving technologies, the professor, the head of the chair of ship power plants and general engineering training.
Object of research is the problem of resource saving of the main components of power engines, both auxiliary mechanisms of machine- and shipbuilding, and also mechanisms of electric power machines which require higher reliability and non-failure operation.
Object of research is the kinematic and contact pairs of machines and mechanisms, parts of auxiliary machines, the metal-cutting tool for which it is necessary to raise the working capacity and reliability by means of operated magnetic processing under the preliminary developed automatic program of dosing the pulses of electromagnetic energy. The general fundamental problem of modern mechanical engineering is the increase in quantity of concentration of stresses in products which reduces their working capacity and reduces economic indicators, both in the industry, and in agriculture.
To solve this problem it is planned to apply magneto-pulse processing of products at scientifically well-grounded automated dosing of electromagnetic pulses in a particular material or a product.
