At last the dream of many Kherson seamen generations
became true - new maritime educational institution where the one may receive
full higher maritime education was created in Kherson.
In accordance to Direction of the Cabinet of Ministers
of Ukraine № of 540-r dated 15.06.2011 and Order of the Department of Education
and Science, Youth and Sport of Ukraine № 616 dated 23.06.2011 on the base of
the Higher educational institution "Kherson State Maritime Institute"
which will be liquidated the new higher educational institution of Kherson
region Kherson State Maritime Academy (KSMA) is created.
At present, Kherson State Maritime Academy is a higher
educational institution of the ІVth
accreditation level, which prepares specialists of complete spectrum of seagoing
and shipbuilding specialities.
The educational institution consists of three
structural subdivisions: Professional-maritime Lyceum of KSMA, which prepares
specialists of working specialities of the educationally-qualifying level
"skilled worker", Maritime College of KSMA, which prepares
specialists of seagoing and shipbuilding specialities of the
educationally-qualifying level "junior specialist" and, actually, the
Academy, which prepares specialists of seagoing specialities of the educationally-qualifying
levels "bachelor", "specialist" and "master". The curricula of KSMA are
integrated, that is why Lyceum and College graduates may continue their studies
in other structural subdivisions of KSMA.
As it is widely known, the only possible way to achieve
high level of cadets’ knowledge is by laborious work of members of
science-pedagogical and teaching staff of the educational institution. KSMA
science-pedagogical and teaching staff consists of approximately 600 persons
with candidates of sciences, associate professors, doctors of sciences,
professors and also operating maritime specialists – captains, chief officers,
chief engineers and others among them. In addition to that, you don’t have to
forget about special training facilities, without which it could be almost
impossible to reach the necessary cadets’ level of preparation. On October, 08,
2011 the range of simulators, which have no analogues in Europe, for preparing
the highly qualified maritime specialists was opened at KSMA, they are:
simulator complex for Basic Offshore Safety Indiction Emergency Training, fire
ground and simulator for gaining skills in operating "Heavy lift".
All these simulators and also 4 rooms with Wi - Fi technologies and a
printing-house with a modern equipment were created with the assistant of one
of the world biggest shipping companies "Marlow Navigation Co.
Ltd."and German state fund of investments and development (Deutsche Entwicklung und Gesellschaft (DEG). During the years of "Marlow Navigation"
and KSMA cooperation the simulator "Free-fall life boat" has been
installed, the specially equipped stands in electro-engineering and automatic
electric drive have been purchased to train electro-engineering cadets and also
the high-speed rescue cutter "Brig" has been donated by the Company.
All these and many other simulators, laboratories and specialized rooms
guarantee the high level of Kherson State Maritime Academy cadets’ preparation
and allow them to occupy the flexible position in the national and
international labour-markets.
In addition to the theoretical and simulator training,
all KSMA cadets have the opportunity to pass metalwork practice in educational
workshops, and also to pass seagoing practice both on KSMA own
training-productive vessel ОМ- 106 and on
vessels of foreign and national companies. One of such vessels is a heavy lift
vessel "HR Constellation" which is manned by "Marlow
Navigation" Company. On this vessel cadets have the opportunity not only
to fasten their already received knowledge but also to continue their studies
in specially equipped laboratory.
